Demon · Task A

Jade Natas Call to Adventure

by Jadejustina · 19 September 2016

As Jade lay there on her stomach, her head buried in her pillow, her hot tears rolling down her cheeks, she could hear the screams in her head. She thought, "How dare he do this to me again, how stupid could I be to let him break my heart for the second time. I should have seen this coming, after all if he could leave me heart broken once, why wouldn't he do it again?" She rolled over and sat up in bed determined not to let this break up...no, this abandonment get to her, not again. She shook her head as the anger built up inside her, feeling the darkness surrounding her very soul. She pulled her now damp red hair back into a ponytail, composed herself and stood up. As she walked in front of the mirror she could see her tear streaked face, a gray complexion staring back at her, the dark circles under her eyes from the days she spent laying in bed crying over the lose of her best friend and finance Danta.

Jade had first met Danta two years earlier, He was a tall, dark haired. handsome man, a true gentleman, or so she thought...They hit it off right away and talked for hours as if they had known each other for ages. He was sweet and kind and funny to boot. She fell for him hard. She tried to keep it as friendly as she could, not wanting to get into another heart breaking relationship which seemed to be her down fall for as long as she could remember. Relationships didn't come easy for her. Every time she opened her heart and tried to let love in, it would end just as quickly as it came. It was almost as if she was destined to never find true love. And with each heart break she could feel her very soul become darker and more distant then the last time. The heart breaks were too much for her to bare. Danta seemed somehow different to her though and so she decided to take a chance, that perhaps this time he would be the one her heart had been waiting on.

They were inseparable for the first year, going everywhere together, telling each other everything and giggling with each other like two school kids in love. Her life was great. She finally found love and it was the most wonderful feeling she had ever felt. They were happy together. They ran the family business together going about their daily tasks and usually ending their days relaxing by the lake watching the sun set over the ripples and waves. Jade thought about settling down and maybe starting a family with him someday, she could picture the two of them chasing the kids around the lake and watching them grow up in a stable and loving home, that was until her life came crashing down around her. One morning she awoke to find an empty bed, and neatly folded on the pillow next to her, where the love of her life laid his head every night, was a letter from Danta explaining that he had found another love, someone who truly spoke to him and understood him. He had wrote that it was for the best that they never speak again, to never see one another, and that it would be easier this way.... "for who? For him?" she thought as her heart was ripped from her chest and torn into a million and one pieces. She cried for a good month, desperately searching for him everywhere she went. Her best friend was gone and she had no one left to talk to. She had often contemplated suicide many times feeling as though there was no true reason to move on. Eventually she picked up the broken pieces of her empty life and tried to move on but he lingered there in the back of her mind always as she hoped that maybe one day he would come back to her.

She had finally gave in to her loneliness once more sure he was never coming back, Her soul was now lost to the light it so desperately clung to in the year she waited for him to return to him. She started turning to witchcraft and the occult, reading up on it and surfing the net, perhaps she could get him back with magic. She had been in a small cafe in the heart of town when she over heard some goth girl all dressed in black talking to her friend about how she managed to get her true love to fall madly in love with her with a simple spell. The two girls giggled about it. That evening Jade was putting her plan in motion to get Danta back for good. She went to the occult book store down the road and glanced through a spell book she had spotted that was covered in an old worn leather binding which had different types of spells written in it with instructions. She snatched it up and purchased it along with some incense and candles. As soon as she got home she cleared the floor in her living room, placed the candles in a circle around her lighting them and drew the pentagram on the wood floor as instructed from the spell book. She lite the incense and stood in the center of the candles as she read the chant aloud from the book in her hand. She could feel the tingling in her spine as she read the eerie spell and then waited. Nothing happened so she read it again aloud this time with a bit more anger in her voice, the desperation coming out. She wanted Danta back and was willing to do anything to get him. She read it aloud one final time almost screaming it, she closed her eyes as she felt an extremely cold gush of air hit her face. The candles flickered almost going out...She opened her eyes and before her stood a man or creature of some kind...
He was tall with dark hair, his eyes seemed distant as if blank, his dark horns piercing his forehead. Jade took a deep breath gasping for air as she chocked on her words. She tried to speak but nothing came out. She stared at him as if in a trance, flashes of fire dancing around him came in waves, "was this a demon?" she wondered? As if he was reading her mind, his words almost growling as he spoke to her, "So you wish to have true love?" He snarled out, in a sinister laugh. His empty eyes staring back into her very soul. She shivered and swallowed hard noticing the air was so thick she could barely breath. "Not just any true love," she whispered, "I want Danta Khoul back." The creature glided closer to her grinning and reaching his long blackened finger nail out he pointed it at her heart, and spoke once more..."Your wish shall be granted but at a price my child!" Jade stumbled back scared, her heart almost thumping out of her chest.."Fine I just want him back, I will do anything to have him again!" she caught her self before almost falling out of the circle of burning candles around her. He smiled almost a soft smile this time as if pondering what she had just said, his eyebrow raised, "Then I shall see you again real soon." he laughed as he suddenly vanished before her very eyes.

She must have passed out after that because she awoke the next morning on the floor outside the circle, had it been a dream? Had she really just spoke with a demon? What had he meant and would she get Danta back? She shrugged it all off as a dream as she went about the day not even giving it another thought. It wasn't till after Danta showed back up in her life a few weeks later begging for forgiveness and wanting to marry her that she thought back on that dark night, "Nooo, it has nothing to do with that! He truly wants me back" she thought with a smile. She was happy once more and that was fine by her. Danta had proposed to her at the spot they had first meet two years prior, it was magical to her, the thoughts of demons left her mind as she planned her wedding. But only a few months later he had done it again, running off and ripping her heart out as he did once before.

As she stood there looking in the mirror at her now broken self a familiar figure appeared behind her. She stumbled back only to fall against him, She spun around with a look of fright on her face, "Who are you?" she screamed.."and how did you get in here?" He grabbed her hands to steady her from falling over and grinned, "My name is Valcoure, and surely you remember me Jade Novak!" his voice was deep almost growling and suddenly Jade remembered, the flash of that night returning to her, she almost passed out. His grip on her hands tightened as he spoke to her in a lower ton then before..."I gave you Danta, and now your soul belongs to me."
The room became darker and the air thinner, she tried to pull away but it was no use, she now knew what he had meant by price. Her shoulders slumped down as she felt her soul giving in to the darkness, She had nothing more to hold on to, the light she had once tried to cling to had gone long ago, Danta was gone and she had no true reason to live on anymore. It was time to let the demon in...it was time to serve her dark Overlord Valcoure!!!
